Charlotte Mulvaney

“I’m the social butterfly – I LOVE people!” Charlotte Wentzell Mulvaney has lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area all her life and wherever she goes, she leaves a wake of smiles and lasting friendships.
I'm the social butterfly

Charlotte’s family ran the Moorhead Dairy delivery; her first job was to wash and fill the milk bottles, which sold for 8 cents per quart, in the milk house behind the family home. After 26 years of running Moorhead Dairy, her Dad sold his milk route and went to work for Cass Clay. Charlotte has fond memories of getting up at 3:45am to accompany her Dad on his route.

Her Dad worked for the creamery for 15 years and soon the crew at Cass Clay became extended family for Charlotte. She began working there in the summers and before she knew it, 30 years had gone by. Charlotte’s specialty was making ice cream bars and sandwiches. After getting injured on the job, Charlotte moved to the Cass Clay sales office and remained there until she retired in 1978.

“Bethany is a good place to live, I love it here. The staff is so wonderful,” beams Charlotte.

But ice cream wasn’t the only sweet in Charlotte’s life. In 1962, she married a handsome Irishman named Harvey Mulvaney. Harvey was a bartender at Teamsters and ticket taker at the historic Crystal Ballroom. Charlotte and Harvey made a lot of great memories together in their 38 years.

Although she misses ol’ Harvey, Charlotte is rarely lonely making friends wherever she goes. “Bethany is a good place to live, I love it here. The staff is so wonderful,” beams Charlotte. She knows everyone’s name at Bethany and is on the dietary committee – we’re betting they have great ice cream treats.

Charlotte’s 8-year-old grand-niece, Aurora, loves to come and see her, especially in the summer. Aurora has lots of residents who know her and love her smiling face. Charlotte’s family stops in when they can and her true friend, Fran, who worked with Harvey, stops in a lot of Sundays.
